Answer to November 20, 2000 Problem

Hockey Problem

Hockey standings are based on points -- each WIN is 2 points, each LOSS is 0 points, and each TIE is 1 point.
In this local high school league, each team plays each other once, but they have not finished the season.

Fill in the missing numbers in the Standings:

TEAM Games Played Wins Losses Ties Goals For Goals Against POINTS
JUDGES 4       7 1 5
WARRIORS 2       2 6 0
WILDCATS 4       5   3
COLONELS 3   0     4 3
EAGLES         5 2

Solution to Problem:

Use some logic like the total number of wins must equal the total number of losses, and the total number of ties must be an even number, and the total number of goals scored must be equal to the total number of goals against.

TEAM Games Played Wins Losses Ties Goals For Goals Against POINTS
JUDGES 4 2 1 1 7 1 5
WARRIORS 2 0 2 0 2 6 0
WILDCATS 4 1 2 1 5 10 3
COLONELS 3 0 0 3 4 4 3
EAGLES 3 2 0 1 5 2 5
