Answer to November 11, 2002 Problem

The Table Problem

What is the diameter of the table in this comic strip?

Solution to the Problem:

The diameter of the table is approximately 3.516 feet.

Since it takes 478 times around the table to make a mile, divide 5,280 feet (the number of feet in a mile) by 478 to find the circumference of the table, which is approximately 11.046 feet.
Since the circumference equals pi times the diameter, divide the circumference 11.046 by pi to get the diameter.
