Take the 13 cards of one suit.
Arrange them in such a way that when you turn the top card over it is an Ace.
Discard it.
Place the next card on top at the bottom of the pile in your hand.   Do not look at it.
Turn the next card up, it should be a 2.
Place the next card at the bottom of the deck.
Continue in this manner until all the cards have been turned up in order.
How do you arrange the cards?

I use an oversized demonstration deck of cards which I have separated into four suits ahead of time.
I have arranged the cards in each suit in the following order:
A Q 2 8 3 J 4 9 5 K 6 10 7
While explaining the activity, I demonstrate with my cards.
Then, I give each student a suit of cards to work on.

Some variations:
(1) Follow the same instructions except place 2 cards at the bottom of the deck.
(2) Follow the same instructions except place 3 cards at the bottom of the deck.
(3) Give each student a full deck and have them arrange all 52 cards so that when using the instructions above, they will count off the cards in order one suit at a time.
