A Walk Around the Earth
Suppose you are six feet tall and walk around the Earth's equator.

How much farther does your head travel than your feet?

Solution:

The distance travelled by your feet is
C = 2 pi R, where pi = 3.14 and R is the radius of the Earth.

The distance travelled by your head is
C' = 2 pi (R + 6) or 2 pi R + 12 pi.
Subtracting C' - C, your head goes 12 pi ft farther than your feet (or approximately 37.7 ft)!
Note: The radius of the circular object is not relevant.
