Mr. P hosts a Games Group at his house every other Friday night.

He originally had a black square card table which measured 33" x 33".

He replaced it with a white square card table which gave the players 280 square inches more playing area than the black table.

What are the dimensions of the white table?

Black table:

White table:

Solution to the Problem:

Here is the solution:

The dimensions of the white table are 37" x 37".

The area of the black table is 33 x 33 = 1089 square inches.
THe area of the white table is 1089 + 280 = 1369 square inches.
So taking the square root of 1369 gives you 37 inches, the length of each side of the white table.
