This month's problem is a challenge from President Donald Trump.

"We’re bringing down drug prices by 1000%, 1200%, 1300%, 1400%," Trump said on Monday, December 21, 2025.   "A drug that sells for $10 in London is costing $130 in New York.   We are bringing it down to $20. You can do your own math.   But it’s 2000%, 3000%."

So, the problem for this month is to do your own math and determine the correct percent decrease from $130 to $20.   Please send in the percent correct to one decimal place.

But now, six months later, he is still making these same statements that just can't be true.   Trump even repeated these statements on a live TV address to our nation on December 18, 2025.   Wouldn't you think that one of his advisors would explain to him that you can't reduce the price of an item by more than 100%?

Solution to the Problem:

Here is the solution:

The actual reduction in price is 84.62%, not 2000% or 3000% that Trump stated.

% decrease = (130 - 20) / 130 = 0.8462, then multiply by 100.
