A Journey Through Genesis
A Bible Adventure Game
A Tutorial Written
by David Pleacher

This is a Text Adventure program, a genre that that was popular in the 1980s.
When prompted for your input, you should enter one of the following:

(1) a one-word command like SCORE (for your current score), HIGH (for high scores), NORTH, UP, QUIT, HELP, ...
(2) A two-word command like LOAD GAME, BUILD ARK, CREATE EARTH, ...
(3) Phrases like LET THERE BE LIGHT or EAT THE WORMY APPLE, ...
(4) Shortcuts like N for North, I for Inventory, U for Up ...

It is recommended that you make a map as you proceed.   There are a lot more places than you think and without a map you will end up going around in circles or missing areas which you haven't tried.   It doesn't need to be perfect as long as you have some record of where you have been and what you've found (as well as where you found it).   Also, there are multiple locations with the same name.   And because I didn't want Joseph traveling back in time to see Adam and Eve, once you have left one area, you may not be able to go back.

Remember that most problems have solutions that require no more than some careful thought and a little common sense.   Several hints give you specific passages to read in Genesis which should help you decide what to do.

If you get stuck, try typing HELP or HINT.   In some places, you will get specific help on what to do there (like SACRIFICE SOMETHING).   In other locations, you will just be given a hint to use at some point in the game.   But sometimes the hint is not too helpful because that activity may have already passed (like if it tells you to CREATE SOMETHING but you have already gone down to Earth.

To speed things up you may use the following abbreviations: N, S, E, W, U, D, for Go North, South, East, West, Up or Down.   I is short for Inventory and will list what you're carrying.

Some (but not all) of the verbs available that you may find useful are:
CLIMB, GET, TAKE, PICK, BRING, DROP, LEAVE, LOOK, GIVE, OFFER, SACRIFICE, MAKE, CREATE, LET, EAT, BUILD, CUT, GO, PRAY, CONFUSE, SPEAK, DREAM, SELL, INTERPRET, HIDE, PUT, PLACE, BURY, CONFOUND, and SAW.

As mentioned above, most instructions are entered by you in the form of two word commands with the first word being a verb.   If the computer doesn't understand, it will tell you so and you must try rewording what you wish to do (e.g., instead of CREATE WATERS, try CREATE WATER or CREATE SEAS).

This game has a SAVE GAME and LOAD GAME capability so that you can leave your adventure and come back the next day to continue it.   Only one game may be saved at a time.   High scores are kept on your computer and will be updated every time that you quit the game or finish the Journey.   If you play the game, please send me the two files requested so that I may put your name on the list of Top Scorers on my web page.
